Your search for a consultant may initially be inspired by your need for specific expertise. But we believe that knowledge and experience are just the beginning. Listening, keeping the focus on the key issues, mining your institutional knowledge, having the sensitivity to respect your culture, understanding the multiple roles counsel must play as analyst, advocate, challenger, cheerleader, coach, and motivator - all of these are essential skills. Jaques & Company provides this kind of perspective and wisdom to help bring out the best in your organization.
We know that gaining commitment to a plan - and turning that plan into action - depends on positive human dynamics and great teamwork. Brainpower is important, but people skills and "fit" make a huge difference.
How can development counsel help me?
Development counsel brings three critical assets to the client table: expertise, experience, and judgment. Typically, the consultant of record is an expert in several development disciplines, such as annual fund-raising, capital campaign planning and management, development communications, planned giving, etc. Individually and collectively, counsel offers the wisdom of broad experience in dozens of different kinds of institutions, campaigns. Counsel often brings objectivity that only an outsider can provide. And in many instances, counsel can serve as the catalyst to insure focus, discipline, and teamwork.

What role does a Jaques & Company principal play in a project?
We are advisors who focus on developing the most effective program strategies and tactics. We rely on the institution’s staff and volunteers to produce materials, undertake solicitations, execute special events, etc. We do not provide resident counsel. By law, we are unable to take an active role in solicitations. However, we will help you to develop the best scenario for your solicitations and train your volunteers and staff to cultivate and solicit.
How does Jaques & Company charge for its services?
In keeping with the standards of membership prescribed by the American Association of Fund-Raising Counsel (AAFRC), all services are provided on a fee basis for time committed (on and off site) to a project – never as a percentage of funds raised. Expenses (such as travel) are always charged at cost. It is impossible to quote the exact cost of a job until the scope of your project is discussed and fully understood. After the preliminary meeting, a principal will be glad to prepare a detailed proposal outlining project objectives, scope/content, costs, and a timeline.
What other organizations like mine have you served?
We have served more than 100 non-profit institutions in education, arts and culture, the environment, religion, and social service. To see our current client list, click here.
